Activities in Gammel Rye and vicinity.
Gl. Rye is a small village close to Himmelbjerget – about 10 min. drive away. The village has roughly 1400 inhabitants and is part of Skanderborg municipality. Gl. Rye has been influenced by old times`s powercentre and monastries. The coronations of several kings have taken place in Gl. Rye church. Sct. Søren`s church has an exiting history as an old church for pilgrimage. Øm Monastery Museum is only 5 min. drive away. If you like antiques etc. we recommend a visit to Gl. Rye Antique Shop just down the road from us.
Gl. Rye Mill lies on a hilltop from where there is a fantastic view to forrests and hills of heather. There are several hiking paths in the area starting at the museum. Put on your hiking boots and go for a walk in the protected hills which are so close by. There are other museums near by – for example Silkeborg Museum where you can see Grauballemanden or you can go and see Asger Jorn`s paintings. Silkeborg is a nice town for shopping and has a big pedestrian precinct in the middle of town. It is 20 min. drive from Lyng Dal.
Of other activities in the area we can mention golf, sailing on the lakes and horseriding. Please find further information on www.visitskanderborg.dk or visit Ry Turistinformation if you are going to visit beautiful Ry anyway.
Half an hour`s drive away you will find Aarhus which is the second largest town in Denmark. Here you will find Den Gamle By, which is a very special experience and Aarhus Musikhus with all kinds of entertainments. The town has a vast choise of activities and is of course ideal for shopping.
For all children Legoland is a must and Givskudparken is also a hit. Legoland is 50 min. drive from Gl.Rye.
